Welcome to Shipston-on-Stour
Nestled on the borders of Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, and Gloucestershire, Shipston-on-Stour is a charming old market town just a couple of miles from the beautiful Cotswolds. Food, Drinks & Places to Visit
The Square
Just a 2–3 minute walk from the house, the town square is the heart of Shipston. Walk down Sheep Street to the fork in the road, turn right at Mrs Brown’s Tea Rooms, and you’ll arrive in the square.
Here you’ll find:
- The Co-op supermarket (the larger and better-stocked option)
- Londis convenience store
- Several pubs, cafés, and restaurants
The Bower House
A beautiful upmarket restaurant and bar with stylish interiors and excellent food. It can be a little pricey, but it’s well worth a visit. Booking is strongly recommended, especially at weekends.
The George Townhouse
A lovely traditional pub with a fantastic outside terrace and garden area. Great food, great atmosphere, and another excellent spot for an evening drink or meal.
The White Bear
A more traditional local pub.
- The lounge bar on the left-hand side offers simpler, cheaper meals in a quieter setting.
- The main bar on the right is lively and popular for football matches — great if you want the atmosphere, less ideal if you prefer peace and quiet.
Amore Italian Restaurant
Just around the corner from The White Bear, this small Italian restaurant is very reasonably priced and highly recommended for pizzas and pasta. Don’t confuse it with the takeaway pizza & kebab shop nearby — this is the sit-down restaurant.
The Horseshoe
A very friendly local pub with very good food and a welcoming atmosphere.
Fish & Chips
There’s also a traditional fish and chip shop just around the corner on the main road if you fancy a classic takeaway.
The White Horse
Formerly known as The Lazy Pug, this pub can be found further along Church Street on the left-hand side.
